During the initial one hour consultation, I take a detailed medical and personal history and perform a physical examination which includes orthopaedic testing. I make a bio-dynamic assessment of the presenting problems and ascertain how an individual physically interacts with their environment. A palpatory assessment contributes to a diagnosis and the subsequent treatment approach. On occasion it may be necessary to refer a patient for further tests or X-Rays.
During treatment I then use a variety of osteopathic techniques which are determined by individual needs and preferences. These techniques include soft tissue articulation, muscle energy, balanced ligamentous tension, fascial, lymphatic, cranial and manipulative techniques. I consider lifestyle and predisposing factors and provide advice on beneficial activities and exercises. All follow up appointments are three quarters of an hour long.
